The AI startup Hugging Face has released an open-source alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT called HuggingChat. The AI model driving HuggingChat was developed by Open Assistant, a project organized by LAION. HuggingChat can handle many of the tasks ChatGPT can, like writing code, drafting emails, and composing rap lyrics. However, HuggingChat can derail quickly depending on the questions it’s asked. HuggingChat joins a growing family of open-source alternatives to ChatGPT. RapidAPI, a startup that built out an API marketplace valued at $1 billion last year, is cutting 50% of its staff. Firewalla made a name for itself by offering powerful yet affordable hardware firewalls that were, at first, mostly geared toward consumers. Microsoft Corp. reported quarterly profit and sales that topped projections, fueled by resilient corporate cloud-computing demand. Yelp has incorporated generative AI into its restaurant reviews.
