TomTom and Microsoft have partnered to develop a conversational AI assistant for automobiles. This AI assistant aims to provide more sophisticated voice interaction and allow users to navigate, find stops, control onboard systems, and perform various tasks while driving. The technology utilizes OpenAI’s large language models and Microsoft’s Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Cognitive Services. TomTom assures that the voice assistant will integrate into different interfaces offered by major car manufacturers while retaining the manufacturers’ branding. The AI assistant will be integrated into TomTom’s Digital Cockpit, an open and modular in-vehicle infotainment platform. Mercedes also previously incorporated ChatGPT models into select vehicles using Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service. TomTom will showcase the AI assistant at CES in January 2024 to provide more insights into its functionality.
