Uber begins offering rides in self-driving Waymo cars

Uber has announced that users in Phoenix now have the option to ride in fully autonomous cars. This is a result of a partnership between Uber and Waymo, the autonomous vehicle company owned by Alphabet. Customers can choose to accept or reject the autonomous option, and there is a 24/7 helpline available for passengers traveling in a Waymo car. Phoenix is the first city where Uber has publicly rolled out access to Waymo’s cars. The rides will be the same price as traditional car rides offered by Uber. Users will be notified in the Uber app if they are paired with a fully autonomous vehicle and can choose to accept or reject the car. Uber has not disclosed the number of Waymo cars being serviced in Phoenix or when the feature will be rolled out in other cities.
