Former Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno have launched their first product through their AI startup, Humane. The product, called the Humane AI Pin, is a $699 pin that can be worn on the lapel and is designed to replace smartphones. It allows users to make calls, send texts, and access information through voice controls. The pin also features a laser display that turns the palm into a mini screen for displaying the time, date, or nearby information. The device does not constantly listen or record, and it only activates when engaged with through voice, touch, gesture, or the laser ink display. Customers will need to pay a $24 monthly data subscription to T-Mobile in addition to the upfront cost of the device. Humane has raised over $200 million in funding from investors including Microsoft, Tiger Global, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. The AI Pin has a built-in speaker and camera, and it can take photos and videos that can be viewed on Humanes web app. It also offers real-time translation of spoken conversations and access to AI services from the internet. The device’s assistant can summarize the user’s daily calendar, messages, and health data. Humane will start taking orders for the AI Pin on November 16.
