Getty Images built a “socially responsible” AI tool that rewards artists

Getty Images has developed an AI tool that aims to address copyright concerns and reward artists. The tool was created in response to creators suing AI models for using their original works without consent or compensation. Getty’s CEO, Craig Peters, believes that a world without rewarding intellectual property investment is a sad one. The company, known for managing the world’s largest visual archive, has a unique perspective on this issue. In February, Getty Images sued Stability AI over copyright concerns related to their image generator, Stable Diffusion. To avoid copyright concerns, Getty’s AI tool is trained exclusively on images that they own the rights to. The tool is commercially safe and cannot produce third-party intellectual property or deepfakes. Getty has also promised to cover any legal costs for customers if there are any lawsuits over AI-generated images.
