OpenAI is reportedly developing a ChatGPT agent that can take over a customer’s device and complete tasks autonomously. The software will focus on tasks that involve text typing, cursor movements, and working with different apps. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, aims to turn ChatGPT into a “supersmart personal assistant for work,” which may cause friction with partner Microsoft. Microsoft and Google have already released early forms of AI agents for workplace apps, enhancing productivity by drafting emails and attending meetings. OpenAI’s software, in development for over a year, could be a game changer in the AI field. Generative AI has shown to significantly boost workers’ productivity, leading to the production of several AI agents. Mustafa Suleyman, cofounder of DeepMind, predicts that AI will provide everyone with their own personal assistant or “chief of staff” within the next five years. OpenAI representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
