Shutterstock debuts an AI image editor for its 750-million picture library

Shutterstock, a popular stock image service, has unveiled new AI image editing capabilities. The company is integrating OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 model into its website to allow users to personalize stock photos. Users can add elements, change colors and placements, remove items, switch aspect ratios, and apply text and shapes. The new features include Magic Brush, Variations, Expand Image, Smart Resize, Background Remover, and AI Image Generator. However, the features are still in beta and may have some limitations. Shutterstock aims to compete with image editing platforms like Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva by offering direct manipulation of images on its platform. The company emphasizes responsible and ethical AI use and provides contributors with compensation for AI-altered images. AI editing is not available for editorial images to prevent misuse. Shutterstock is a member of the Content Authenticity Initiative and plans to integrate its standards for trustworthy and unaltered content.
