In his annual end-of-year letter, Bill Gates discusses the future of AI and predicts a massive wave of innovation starting in 2024. He emphasizes that the work done in the next year will lay the foundation for a significant technology boom later in the decade. Gates believes that widespread AI adoption in the U.S. is still 18-24 months away, while Africa is three years away, which he sees as an improvement compared to previous digital divides. However, Gates admits that he didn’t utilize AI tools for the foundation’s strategy reviews as he had initially planned. He acknowledges that many people are still figuring out how to make the best use of AI. Gates also expresses hope that AI can help address antibiotic resistance by providing suggestions to health workers regarding the best drug, dosage, and duration for specific local populations.
