Intel has announced that numerous PC makers are utilizing its latest chip, which includes a neural processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks. The chip, codenamed “Meteor Lake,” is aimed at enticing consumers to upgrade their machines for the AI era. Laptops featuring the new chip will be available from Dell Technologies, Microsoft, Lenovo Group, and others, and will be sold at Best Buy in the US, as well as global retailers like JD.com and Harvey Norman. Intel’s stock rose by 3.6% following the announcement. The company believes that using its chips will make AI services more affordable, faster, and more private than relying on cloud-based services. Intel showcased the chip’s capabilities, such as transcribing voice notes without sending data to a third-party cloud provider and generating songs in the style of Taylor Swift. Additionally, Intel unveiled a chip called Gaudi 3, which is intended to compete with Nvidia in the data center AI market.
