Taiwan’s FTV News has introduced the country’s first AI weather presenter, marking a significant development in the use of AI in broadcasting. The virtual presenter, created using Artificial Intelligence Global Company (AIGC) technology, is capable of generating photorealistic human images and has the ability to learn from past broadcasts to enhance its presentation skills. The AI presenter made its debut by delivering a 2-minute weather forecast, detailing conditions in Madrid and other major cities worldwide. This innovation aims to cater to people’s changing reading and listening habits in the digital age. However, the use of AI in TV broadcasting has raised ethical concerns, prompting the Taiwanese government to initiate discussions on developing relevant policies. The Ministry of Digital Affairs and the National Science Council are leading these discussions to ensure the responsible use of AI anchors. The National Communications Commission has the authority to intervene if AI anchors disseminate false information or images without proper fact-checking. Overall, the introduction of the AI weather presenter in Taiwan represents a significant step forward in the integration of AI technology in the media industry.
