OpenAI has announced the general availability of GPT-4, its latest text-generating model, through its API. Existing OpenAI API developers with successful payment history can access GPT-4, and access will be opened to new developers by the end of the month. GPT-4 can generate text and accept image and text inputs, an improvement over its predecessor GPT-3.5. However, the image-understanding capability is currently being tested with a single partner. GPT-4 is not perfect and can make reasoning errors and hallucinate facts. OpenAI plans to allow developers to fine-tune GPT-4 and another text-generating model later this year. OpenAI is also making its DALL-E 2 and Whisper APIs generally available. Certain older OpenAI models will be deprecated and replaced with new base models. OpenAI will provide support for users transitioning to the new models.
