OpenAI says Sam Altman to return as CEO

Sam Altman is returning as the CEO of OpenAI after being dismissed last week. OpenAI, the most valuable U.S. startup, has reached an agreement for Altman’s return and is also reforming its board. Former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, former US Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, and Quora founder Adam D’Angelo will be part of the new board, with Taylor serving as chair. Microsoft, which owns about 49% of OpenAI, was surprised by Altman’s dismissal and had hired him to lead a new AI group. However, Altman decided to return to OpenAI with the support of the new board and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. OpenAI’s previous board faced scrutiny for their decision, and some investors considered suing them. Altman and former President Greg Brockman, who also resigned in protest, are returning to the startup. OpenAI is seen as a leader in the AI race and has a significant impact on other startups. Altman’s return is seen as a positive outcome for the company and its stakeholders.
