TikTok is testing an AI chatbot called Tako that can recommend videos based on user queries. The chatbot could potentially change search and navigation in the app. Tako sits above the TikTok profile icon to the right of a video and can answer a wide range of queries. It is unclear what AI model TikTok is using to power Tako. Tako will display suggested prompts to help users start a conversation with the bot. The chatbot is currently a limited experiment and is not available to users in North America or Europe. TikTok recently filed a trademark application for chatbot software called Tako, suggesting a wider release may be coming. Other social media apps, such as Snapchat, have also released chatbots in recent months. Mark Zuckerberg has expressed interest in introducing AI agents to billions of people. TikTok is always exploring new technologies to add value to its community and create a safe place for entertainment, inspiration, creativity, and culture.
