Getty Images has launched a generative AI art tool called Generative AI. The tool uses an AI model provided by Nvidia and is trained on a portion of Getty’s vast library of stock content. It allows users to generate images from text descriptions or prompts. Getty ensures that the tool is commercially safe and includes protection against copyright lawsuits. However, there are safeguards in place to prevent the tool from being used for disinformation or replicating the style of a living artist. All images created by the tool are watermarked as AI-generated. Getty will compensate contributors whose works are used to train the AI generator and will share revenues generated from the tool. The tool can be accessed on Getty’s website or integrated into apps and websites through an API. Customers will soon be able to customize the tool with proprietary data. Getty had previously criticized generative AI products and sued AI startup Stability AI for allegedly copying its images. Other companies, such as Bria and Shutterstock, are also exploring ethical approaches to generative AI. Adobe is developing a compensation model for contributors to its stock content library.
